1. Enable-Disable Quick Launch Toolbar :
Just follow these simple steps :
a. Click on start and enter command gpedit.msc in the run.
b. Expand User Configuration tree and select Administrative Templates and finally Start Menu and Taskbar.
c. Locate the QuickLaunch in the right pane and double click it.
d. Select the Enabled and click Apply followed by OK.
e. Now Right click on the Taskbar select Toolbar->New toolbar.
f. Navogate to C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.
g. Now Select Folder Quick Launch.
h. Now you should see the Quick Launch Toolbar on the Taskbar.
2. Enable or disable taskbar thumbnail preview :
a. Click on start and enter command gpedit.msc in the run.
b. Expand User Configuration , select Administrative Templates and Start Menu and Taskbar in the Group Policy Editor.
c. Now locate “Turn off Taskbar Thumbnails” in the right pane of the Group Policy Editor and double click it.
d. Select Disable and press Apply and then OK.
3. To show AM/PM symbols in the system tray clock:
a. type the intl.cpl in Run and press Enter.
b. Regional and Language Settings windows opens.
c. Now select the Additional settings.
d. Go to the Time tab and in the time formats section just add “tt” at the end of the Long Time.
e. If we want to change the format to the 12-Hour format just change the value to hh:mm:ss tt.
f. Now click Apply and then press OK.
4. Enabling Aero with registry hack :
a. click start and type in regedit in the run.
b. Now navigate to the the following registry key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM.
c. In the right pane set the following three DWORD entries.
UseMachineCheck, and put its value to 0
Blur, and set its value to 0
Animations, and set its value to 0
now exit the registry editor
c. Now run cmd with Administartive Priviledges.
d. Type the following command.
Net Stop uxsms.
Net Start uxsms.
This command will restart the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.
e. Now Attempt to Enable Aero by right clicking on desktop-> Personalize ->Windows Colors.
5. Removing the “Send Feedback” Link From the Title Bar :
a. Click the start and type the regedit in Run
b. Now navigate to the following key in the left pane.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel > Desktop
c. Find the key named as FeedbackToolEnabled and click on it and set its value to 0 (zero).
d. Now LogOff and relogin to the system to see the changes.
6. Hidden Windows Themes :
a. Open Windows Explorer and select Organize.
b. Select Folder and Search Options and navigate to the View tab.
c. Select Show hidden files, folders and drivers and un check Hide protected operating system files Click Yes, if prompted for confirmation.
d. Now browse to the following folder:
Windows\Globalization\MCT
e. There will be five folders that will be listed with format MCT-XX (where XX is AU, CA, GB, US, or ZA) and each format represents the globalization settings for each region of the World. Now select the folder that you want to select.
f. Open the theme folder inside the selected folder and double click the XX.theme file to apply settings and this theme is set into the Personalization setting so that user can later use it.
g. Now the steps that you performed in Steps 1 to 5.
7. Getting the power efficiency report :
a. As the administrator run the command prompt by typing cmd in run.
b. In the command window type the following command
powercfg -energy -output \Folder\Energy_Report.html
where the \Folder is the folder where you want your report
c. The Windows will inspect for a minute and then presents with a report in HTML format. You will also get the power recommendations and tips will also be given to improve the power efficiency.
